Free Poets Collective: Women Scream International
March 7 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
We seek to enhance the work of women in poetry and reclaim our rightful place in literature. We have created the “Woman’ Scream” International Poetry Festival a non profit event that is held throughout the whole month of March of every year honoring women and their role in society, while it has a social message of NON violence against them as a way to combine culture to a worthy cause that touches us directly as the women we are. Words are our therapy and our Woman’ Scream is our way to bring encouragement to other voices drowned in abuse and seeks to inject a dose of self-esteem in each shared message, and to encourage the leadership role of many women who are part the organization (Our work thus becomes a more humane work, direct and integral starting from our partners, poets, followers to the public in general who attend our events, effectively creating a chain of touching consciences, one person at a time).

Woman’ Scream is selflessly supported by our Goodwill Ambassadors, friends and supporters of the movement with the participation of poets, artists, painters, actors, institutions, and literary groups that support the cause.

 MISSION, VISION AND VALUES

Kendra Emery & Lisa Dowling
March 7 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm | $10 / $5 with Student ID

Saxophonist and vocalist Kendra Emery is a passionate and enthusiastic performer, educator, and collaborator. Kendra has an interest in creative and unique concert planning; some of her past productions include a 4-course dinner concert with original compositions written to accompany each dish, a new film score screening, and she loves hosting house concerts. She proactively works with composers to try to expand the saxophone and mixed chamber repertoire. She has performed at a variety of festivals including EMM, NASA, and the Westfield new music festival.

Praised as “Bjork-like” and “innovative” by the New York Times, Lisa Dowling aka kills to kisses has had her ears and fingers in the post-classical, post-rock, post-post world of sound since she graduated from music school. Wanting to give her beloved instrument a fresh voice, she created kills to kisses to showcase the unique and surprising capabilities of an the upright bass, an instrument that is usually not recognized for its virtuosity. Her music is bass-centric, but not in the ways you would expect; luscious, pulsating melodies soar over funky bass riffs and electronic drones creating a “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) cinematic language that will beg of your hips.
