More than $11,000 was raised for
Middlesex Community College student scholarships from the 2014 MxCC Foundation
Road Race, which was held on the Middletown campus in October. The annual event drew hundreds of racers to
the new 5k and 10k courses, walkers for the 4k course, and spectators. Additionally, the race was supported through sponsorships
and donations from 38 local businesses, organizations, and families. The money
raised will help fund a series of merit- and need-based scholarships that are
given by the Foundation each year to continuing MxCC students.
“This race is a major undertaking
for our Foundation, and has become a much-anticipated event for our College and
local community,” said Jay Keiser, chairperson of the MxCC Scholarship Race
Committee. “We are always so
appreciative of the support we receive from so many different groups and
individuals, and we thank them. Since we know most community college graduates
remain in the local region to fill jobs or open businesses, our scholarship
program is really an investment in our overall economy – so the benefits come
full circle to each of our sponsors.”
