A CONVERSATION ABOUT PSYCHOLOGICAL AND SPIRITUAL VITALITY IN THE ELDER YEARS
.... at First Church in Middletown, 190 Court Street, this
coming Sunday, October 19th until 1:00. It
will begin with brief presentations by six panelists: in an
extended Second Hour – from 11:30
Karl Scheibe, Richard Engelhardt, Virginia Houghtaling,, (all members of First Church and
psychotherapists in Middletown)....
Jeremy Zwelling (retired Professor of Religion and Director of Jewish Studies at Wesleyan), Dr.
Richard Lewis (an M.D. Psychiatrist and
Jungian Analyst with offices in Guilford
and New Haven), and Bill Roberts (former
minister of First Church).
C.G. Jung, the Swiss depth psychologist, believed that each
season of life had its own particular
challenges.
“A human being would certainly not grow to be seventy or eighty years old if this longevity has no
meaning for the species. It is neurotic
to resist the imperatives of one’s advancing
age. “
We cannot live the afternoon of life according to the program of life’s morning for what in the
morning was true will by the afternoon
become a lie.... Whoever carries over into
the afternoon the law of the morning.... must pay with damage to his soul.”
