The employment outlook for medical assistants such as ophthalmic or optometric assistants is expected to increase by 29 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. To meet that need, Middlesex Community College has introduced a brand new certificate program, Ophthalmic Medical Assisting (OMA), and invites prospective students to its upcoming open house.
At the open house, prospective students will learn about the OMA certificate at MxCC. This unique one-semester certificate program is offered in a hybrid format where course material is covered primarily in online presentations, but includes 12 on-campus clinical segments on Saturdays during the semester, as well as off-campus clinical training.
“This is a great opportunity for students to enter a rewarding field,“ said Kate Miller, curriculum innovation coordinator of the Health and Life Science career initiative, which supported the creation of this new certificate.
“This is the only for-credit OMA program in Connecticut and because of our central location and the Saturday classes, we invite potential students from around the region to contact us for more information.”
The open house and information session will be held on Tuesday, August 19 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Chapman Hall at Middlesex Community College, located at 100 Training Hill Road, Middletown. For more information and to register, contact Carolyn Sommer, recruitment and placement coordinator, at csommer@mxcc.edu or 860-343-5749.
