Seat Belt Law Enforcement Results

From The Middletown Police Department
--------------
The Police Department concluded stepped-up enforcement of seat belt laws on June, as part of the 2014 national Click-It or Ticket mobilization.

After 14 days of increased enforcement efforts by patrol and 13 safety belt checkpoints, 304 seat belt tickets were issued during the special safety crackdown. In addition, there were 3 cell phone tickets, 2 speeding tickets, 61 other motor vehicle citations, 10 suspended licenses, 18 marijuana infractions, and 1 DUI arrest.

As part of the national Click-It or Ticket mobilization, Middletown teamed up with law enforcement agencies from across the country to ticket motorists not wearing their seat belts. The high-visibility campaign was timed to begin with increased travel for the Memorial Day weekend.

The mobilization may have ended, but the crackdown on seat belt enforcement will continue year-round. We’re doing this to save lives. In 2012, seat belts saved an estimated 12,174 lives nationwide. An additional 3,031 lives could have been saved if all unrestrained passenger vehicle occupants 5 and older involved in fatal crashes had been properly restrained.
