  1. Does anyone know why the fireworks are not held ON 4th of July? I realize that in general by holding them the night before, people are off the next day and can stay out later. But if you are a person who works nights...you never get to go! I know you can't please all of the people....but my family never gets to go because holding them on a non-holiday day doesn't allow for it.

  2. A few possible reasons: many people leave town Friday morning for the 3-day weekend; there are only so many producers of fireworks shows, and they can't be everywhere all on one night; towns don't like to compete with one another. I don't know if any of these is the "real" reason, but maybe someone at City Hall will comment?

  3. This year July 4 is on a Friday, so I can understand a 3-day weekend, but when July 4 is a Wednesday....not so much.

It is just disappointing to not be able to go yet again....

  4. It's all about the money. On July third vendors may charge a slightly reduced rate. On July third, Police and Fire staff do not receive overtime and holiday pay to cover the event. The bottom line for the city is considerably less.

  5. Because it's more expensive ON the 4th. Pyrotechnics charge a premium for working on the 4th as well as the entertainers and I'm sure the emergency crews that are there on standby..
