Former ESPN Producer, Joe Franco, Hosts a Celebration of All Things “Made in Connecticut” at MxCC Foundation’s Second Annual Red Moon Fest on September 7

Just as the red moon is a unique and mystical natural phenomenon, the Middlesex Community College Foundation, Inc.’s Red Moon Fest is a unique – and perhaps mystical – celebration of all things “grown, made, or created in Connecticut.”  The Red Moon Fest, which benefits Middlesex Community College students and facilities, includes a live and silent auction, performance by local jazz pianist, and locally produced wine, beer, savories and sweets. This second annual event will be held in Chapman Hall on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 6 – 9 p.m.  For sponsorship, advertising, auction donations, or to purchase tickets ($50 each), contact Corey Martell at 860.343.5701 or cmartell@mxcc.edu.

This year, the Red Moon Fest is also a celebration of the launch of MxCC’s innovative New Media Program. Joe Franco, retired media producer from ESPN, Satellite News Channel, and ABC News, will serve as 2013 honorary chair. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be dedicated to enhancing what will be “made, grown, and created” in that new department.

Confirmed donations to the live auction include a seven-night vacation at Casita Celestial in Mexico (airfare not included), a 3-night Cape Cod cottage vacation, a seven-night condo vacation in Wells, Maine, and a South African Safari (airfare not included).  The silent auction includes donations from Fusin Bakery, Kid City Children’s Museum, Haveli, the Connecticut Science Center, The Connecticut Cabaret Theatre, Connecticut Yarn and Wool, the Saybrook Point Inn and Spa, It’s Only Natural, and the MxCC Faculty and Staff.  Additional items will be added to both auctions through the event date and will be posted at mxcc.edu/redmoon

The MxCC Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt public charity dedicated to the support of Middlesex Community College and its students, who come from throughout Middlesex, New Haven, and Hartford counties. The Middlesex Community College Foundation raises support for student scholarships, faculty development, instructional equipment, and public lectures and programs that contribute to the quality of life here in Connecticut.
Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College (www.mxcc.edu) is part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System. In all it does, Middlesex Community College strives to be the college of its community. By providing high quality, affordable, and accessible education to a diverse population, the college enhances the strengths of individuals through degree, certificate, and lifelong learning programs that lead to university transfer, employment, and an enriched awareness of our shared responsibilities as global citizens. MxCC, recently named a "Great College to Work For" by The Chronicle of Higher Education, offers more than 50 degree or certificate programs at the main 38-acre campus in Middletown, the downtown Meriden Center, and online.
