Open Mic with Bob Gotta (7 pm, $5): Come play and be heard. Bring your own instrument or play our piano or congas… join the fun, express yourself!
Friday, May 3
Hartt School of Music (8 pm, $10/$5 students): Students from the Guitar Department of The Hartt School will be performing solo and chamber works for classical guitar. Among the works being performed is a guitar quartet arrangement of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #3, trios for flute, viola, and guitar by Sergio Assad and Astor Piazzola, and solo works by Villa-Lobos and other major guitar composers. Saturday, May 4
Qigong (7:30 am, free): Renew your natural energy, feel stronger and more relaxed.
Community Yoga (8:45 am, free): Vinyasa style - nourishes the body and the soul.
"Aligned with Source" Workshop for Empowerment (10:30 am, $5): Integrating the New Energy into Your Life
Free Poets Collective featuring Faith Vicinanza & Mar Walker (1 pm, free): Faith Vicinanza and Mar Walker, a fabulous duo of Connecticut poetry icons, will read from their many publications. Both of these poets singularly is a powerhouse but together, this is an event not to miss. As always, the Free Poets Collective will include an open mic and a live musician.
Alon Nechushtan Jazz Trio (8 pm, $10): Pianist and composer Alon Nechushtan will be bringing to the Buttonwood Tree a trio of fantastic improvisers with “a loose-tight chemistry placing a premium on group interplay and at the same time encouraging individual solo expression" (Bill Milkowski). The group has recieved the Independent Music Awards for ‘The Best Jazz Trio Album’ for their recording, Words Beyond. Click here for more information and to reserve your seat.
Sunday, April 27
Food Not Bombs (1 pm, free): Cooking for peace and social justice! Click here for more information. This week, featuring a "rumpus" drum circle.
The Great Make Believe Society presents "Improv for Wizards" Workshop (5 pm, $5): This workshop is for all ages and experiences. It is helpful to have a basic knowledge of the Harry Potter World but most importantly come with the willingness to have fun! This workshop will teach you to think on your feet and gain confidence in your acting abilities. A performance by The Great Make Believe Society will immediately follow at 7:00pm.
