The City of Middletown is helping its residents reduce their
energy consumption, save money on their utility bills, and support the
Middletown Tree Planting Fund by encouraging participation in the Home Energy
SolutionsSM program.
Home Energy Solutions is a convenient home energy
improvement service provided by CL&P, UI and the natural gas utilities as
part of the Energize Connecticut initiative. The program is designed to help
people save money on their monthly energy bills. For those who sign up,
utility-authorized energy specialists come to your home or apartment and
install energy-efficient products and perform weatherization services. These
services include locating and professionally sealing critical air leaks,
replacing incandescent lights with energy-saving bulbs and insulating hot water
pipes.
The
cost for the Home Energy Solutions service is $75 for homes heating with
electricity or natural gas, $99 for homes heated with fuel oil and propane, and
is free for those who meet income eligibility guidelines. More information on the Home Energy Solutions program will
be offered at a free public forum on May 4 at the Russell Library’s Hubbard
Room,123 Broad Street, Middletown from 2-3:30 pm.
Middletown is partnering with two Home Energy Solutions
vendors, New England Conservation Services and Victory Energy Solutions. For
every Middletown resident who signs up for a HES assessment before October 31,
2013, $25 will be donated by these vendors to the Middletown Tree Planting
Fund. Middletown’s Urban Forestry Commission manages the city’s tree planting
program.
“Our participation in the Home Energy Solutions program is a
great opportunity for Middletown residents to save money and energy, and reduce
our collective carbon footprint,” said Middletown Mayor Dan Drew.
