2013 Garden Conference at University of Connecticut


The University of Connecticut is sponsoring the “2013 Garden Conference” on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  The conference will be held at the University of Connecticut, Lewis B. Rome Commons in Storrs, CT.

The 2013 UConn Garden Conference features an exciting lineup of top national speakers and local experts on various aspects of garden design, maintenance, and plant selection.  This all-day conference offers valuable educational opportunities for gardeners of all levels, from the casual gardener to the Advanced Master Gardener.  The speakers featured at the conference will include:

  • Keynote speaker Jeff Gillman, Associate Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science at the University of Minnesota and author of five books on gardening.  Jeff will be speaking on The Truth about Garden Remedies.
  • Tina Bemis, TV host and innovative co-owner of Bemis Farms Nursery in Spencer, MA, who will speak on Shade Gardens Reinvented.
  • Matthew Benson, award winning photographer, author of The Photographic Garden: Mastering the Art of Garden Photography, photographer for the book Urban Farms, and owner of Stonegate Farm (an organic Community Supported Agriculture farm), who will be speaking on Artistry in the Vegetable Garden.
  • Warren Leach, co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth, MA and well known landscape designer, who will be speaking on Designing, Constructing and Planting the Entry Garden. 
  • Robert Durgy, Connecticut expert and Farm Manager at the Griswold Research Center, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, who will be speaking on Invasive and Troublesome New Pests and Diseases in Your Garden.

Included with your registration are an information packet with session summaries, buffet lunch, morning & afternoon snacks, free parking, and selected autographed books plus a wide array of gardening books and plants available for purchase.
