Wesleyan parents and alumni, and quite a few local residents came out on a gorgeous Saturday to cheer on the men in red and black as they took on the Lord Jeffs of Amherst in football. Wesleyan has beaten Amherst only once since 1993, but Middletown's college football team came into Saturday's game undefeated this year, and hopes for a homecoming victory over Amherst were high.
4500 spectators enjoyed a great football game on the center of Wesleyan's beautiful campus, but the long-sought victory over their rivals will have to wait until next year.
The home-town defense played a tough game, holding Amherst to its lowest point total of the season. Unfortunately, the Amherst defense was even tougher. Two late Wesleyan drives were snuffed out by interceptions, and Amherst won by a score of 17-9.
