MHS Girls Varsity 8 Heading to Boston

I have just a few short moments but wanted to take the time to share with the following:  We are thrilled to post that the Middletown High School Girls Varsity 8+ is heading off to Boston early tomorrow morning to compete in the very prestigious and exciting Head of the Charles.  Crews come from all over the country and all over the world.  There is a wide range of ability and ages represented at this annual event.  Competitors are from high school aged and well through the golden years.  National and junior national teams also make appearances.

We are so happy to be able to take our kids (this is the fourth year in a row that we've been lucky enough to get an entry) to this regatta.  It is a great opportunity for them to see how truly big and impressive their sport is.  Some kids who join crew at the high school have never seen it before their first day.  They don't get to watch it on TV (except for the Olympics and at 4am in the morning this year!), they don't read about much in the sports pages and rarely see it depicted in books or movies.  When they arrive at Boston, it feels like it is the World Series of rowing!  The kids are amazed and in shock as to how many people and teams are there.

There is more information available about the race at www.hocr.org.  If you are free tomorrow, take a drive to Boston and cheer on our team.  The girls race at 1:55pm.  If you can't make it, you can watch it on a live web cast on the web site listed above.

Good luck and congratulations, Blue Dragon Crew!
