Wiffle balls and bats, a seaside
brunch, apple pear wine, skating lessons and original art are among the dozens
of “made in Connecticut” gift baskets being auctioned during the Middlesex
Community College Foundation, Inc.’s first annual Red Moon Fest. This unique evening, which celebrates all
things “grown, made, or created in Connecticut,” was created to benefit
Middlesex Community College students and facilities.
Many local artists and musicians –
including Steve Clark, Barbara Adams, Nancy Goodrich, Jackie Peterson, Alice Schumacher and William
Nagle – have donated artwork or lessons. Other donations include gift
cards and merchandise from a
variety of local restaurants and businesses including the Water’s Edge
Resort, It's Only Natural, the Griswold Inn, Lyman Orchards, Bishop’s Orchard, Lino’s Market,
Gouveia Vineyards, NoRA Cupcakes, New England Emporium, and Fascia’s Chocolates.
Additional
auction items include golf on the Gary Player course at Lyman Orchards, skating
lessons at Champions Skating Center, memberships to the YMCA, and admission to
local attractions (Ivoryton Playhouse, Dinosaur State Park, Essex River Boat
and Steam Train, and the Wadsworth Atheneum).
The live auction event held during Red
Moon Fest will feature donations for a weekend on Cape Cod, a trip for two
to South Africa (airfare not included), and a kayak and kayak tour of the
Connecticut River.
The evening will include acoustic music by
the Lost Acres String Band, along with locally produced wine and beer, savories
and sweets. Tickets for the event, which will be held in Chapman Hall on the
MxCC Middletown campus, from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012, are
available for $50 each by calling 860.343.6914 or emailing gkline@mxcc.edu.
The MxCC Foundation is a non-profit,
tax-exempt public charity dedicated to the support of Middlesex Community
College and its students, who come from throughout Middlesex, New Haven, and
Hartford counties. The Middlesex Community College Foundation raises support
for student scholarships, faculty development, instructional equipment, and
public lectures and programs that contribute to the quality of life here in
Connecticut.
