Young Climate Activists Bike into Middletown to Work with Community

Six young adults bike into Middletown as part of 7-week long journey across Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Who:
·      Six young adults aged 19-23 travelling exclusively on bicycles.

What:

·      Bicycling 27 miles into town to work with community partners to address our dependence on deadly energy.
·      Events to bring together community members in dialogue, raise awareness and promote action against fossil fuel subsidies and climate change.

When:

Many of us are having a tough time leaving the comforts of air-conditioning to go get the mail. So imagine 6 sweaty riders in helmets and matching t-shirts biking upwards of 27 miles into town in order to reach out to this community, carting two large trailers and everything else they need for the summer on their bicycles.


These young adults are summer interns with Climate Summer, a program of Better Future Project, and are one team of five bicycling around New England to address society’s dependence on deadly energy and its influence on climate change. This team is the Rhode Island/Connecticut team and will travel over 1,000 miles exclusively by bicycle over the summer, with no support vehicles. In each community, the six young adults will learn from, support, highlight and connect to address deadly energy and climate change. The team is also working to build on the movement addressing climate change and use a petition directed at large energy corporations promote an end to fossil fuel subsidies.
