MAC 650 Gallery and Gallore Gallery are teaming up with 8 other North End art venues as part of a monthly gallery walk, occurring every third Wednesday of the month, through October. This month's gallery walk is tomorrow, July 18th, from 5 - 8PM.
The 10 businesses are each vitalizing culture in our city's Art District. The Gallery Walk is a chance for the businesses to showcase art, live entertainment, and great dining deals. A Gallery Walk map lists all of the participating venues (click on image to enlarge). The printed map comes with coupons for food and drink specials at participating restaurants, which include Eli Cannon's, Tibetan Kitchen, Rialto Café, Nora's cupcake, and Iguana Ranas. The map is available at all gallery walk locations.
The Gallery Walk was the brainchild of Dmitri D'Alessandro of Middletown Framing, along with his wife, Rusa. Dmitri credited all of the businesses who were eager to participate, as well as the Downtown Business District. He singled out Stephan Allison, Coordinator for the City Arts Office, for his support of the arts in the North End, "...along with the work of his wife Susan at The Buttonwood Tree, [they] have been instrumental in laying the foundation that we now build upon."
Allison said the North End Gallery Walk is the perfect occasion for residents as well as out-of-town visitors to see some of the visual arts culture that our city offers, "Due to the concentration of artists, arts organizations, and arts activities in this area, for many years I have looked upon the North End unofficially as Middletown's Arts District. This concentrated effort is a natural progression towards that recognition.”
Mayor Dan Drew lauded the effort, "The Gallery Walk will serve as a catalyst for an artistic and economic engine in the North End."

The Gallery Walk will continue every third Wednesday from July through October.
and thanks to directors of the Buttonwood Tree who have followed after Susan Allison to carry on its legacy, most recently Anne-Marie Cannata who has kept the Buttonwood Tree vibrant for the past few years. This gallery walk looks like a good idea and a fun night out
