MHS Rowing Team Races Avon High School

MHS Boys' 2nd Varsity racing today in Middletown

Middletown High School Crew welcomed Avon High School Crew to the Connecticut River today for a fabulous day of racing on a nearly perfect day!

MHS Crew started the day today celebrating their graduating seniors with a wonderful Senior Day Ceremony.  The team is graduating 12 seniors who will be sorely missed:  Simon Arias, Kyle Breton, Cody More, Kiene Hannah, Tyler Sheil, Jack Winters, Amber Drew, Morgan Feshler, Sophie Bishop, Zoe Kaplan, Sharon Richards and Lizzie Paquette.  The soon-to-be graduates were escorted by their parents and junior members of the team made brief speeches honoring each senior as they received small gifts (see picture below - look for tiaras, bow ties and crazy glasses)

After the festivities everyone's attention and focus moved to the job at hand for the day - racing Avon High School.  As mentioned, the weather was absolutely perfect and the water was nearly flat, which makes for fabulous rowing conditions.  Everyone brought their "A-game" and the crowd enjoyed racing that was close and exciting.  Many of the races were decided in the final seconds of the 1500 meter course, which kept the crowd at Harbor Park on their feet, cheering and clanging their cowbells (an item more easily heard while racing on the river)
Results of today's racing:  all races are in 8 person racing shells with a coxswain
