MIDDLETOWN, CONN., (May
16, 2012) – The Middlesex Community College Foundation, Inc., hosted its
annual Scholarship Reception and presenting awards to 41 students. All winners were selected by the Foundation’s
Scholarship Committee which reviewed completed applications and ensured all
criteria was met. Students received
their awards, which totaled more than $32,500 combined, at a May 11 ceremony on campus.
“The MxCC Foundation Scholarship program rewards the hard work and dedication of MxCC students with financial support to continue their education,” said Prof. Judith Felton, chairman of the Foundation Scholarship Committee. “We greatly appreciate the generous donations made by individuals, businesses, alumni, service organizations, and charitable foundations to these different MxCC Foundation scholarships. We dedicated our award ceremony to these donors who are the lifeline of all that we do.”

- The Edie Fuld Annual Scholarship, awarded to Christina Deckard-Popoola of Middletown
- The Gandhi Scholarship, awarded to Christina Deckard-Popoola and Samantha Corsini, both of Middletown
- The Hugh & Judith Cox Scholarship, awarded to Courtney Bugden of Westbrook and Michelle LaVoie of Hartford

- The Charles & Rachel Wiltsie Scholarship, awarded to Katrina Gallant-Russo of Manchester
- The Jesse J. Salafia Nursing Award, awarded to Theresa Malone of Higganum
- The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships awarded to Liljana Sassa of Old Lyme and Mary Tauanuu of Middletown.
“The MxCC Foundation’s Scholarship Reception continues to be
one of the highlights of the academic year for our students, faculty, and
donors,” said Dr. Anna Wasescha, president of MxCC. “This assembled group works incredibly hard
throughout the year to raise funds, build awareness, and rally support for
these deserving students. I’m proud to
see our community come together for this purpose.”
The Foundation awards scholarships each spring semester to
qualifying students. Full scholarship
information and applications are available online at www.mxccfoundation.org, at the
Foundation Office, at the Office of Financial Aid, and at prominent locations
throughout campus. The application form lists criteria and required
materials that must accompany each completed application.
Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College (mxcc.edu) is part of the Connecticut State
Colleges and Universities Board of Regents for Higher Education. The school
offers more than 50 degree or certificate programs at its three locations: the main, 38-acre campus in Middletown, the
downtown Meriden Center, and the shoreline in Old Saybrook. The college promotes understanding, learning,
ethics, and self-discipline by encouraging critical thinking. Current enrollment exceeds 2,875 full and
part-time students, and 1,600 continuing education students.
