The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a special exception to allow a two-family dwelling to be constructed at the corner of Grand Street and Woodward Avenue. Carl Morello, the applicant, told the commission that the "well built, well designed, well constructed" house would have no negative impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
The Commission also approved an extension to the special exception approval for the construction of 38 multi-family dwelling units on Jackson Street. Jackson is a short, dead-end road intersecting Washington Street near Midas Muffler, it crosses on a small bridge over the railroad tracks. Steve Rocco, an architect speaking on behalf of the applicant, told the Commission that the original approval required a stop light at the bridge, and there had been a delay in gaining approval for this stoplight from the State Department of Transportation. Rocco said that he would be coming before the Commission to request a modification which would eliminate the stoplight requirement. He previewed this by showing a picture of two vehicles on the bridge.
It should also be mentioned that the two family house was approved with the condition the owner go thru Design Review.
