NUTRITION & EXERCISE RADIO TOPIC
Middletown — Pam Rosow, Sports Nutritionist for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center,
is the guest on the next edition of the health-information radio program — Healthline. Ms.
Rosow will discuss the role of good nutrition and regular exercise in combating obesity, heart
disease, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses.
Regular exercise not only prevents or lowers the risks of serious health conditions but promotes
psychological well-being, strengthens the body and improves the flexibility of joints and bones.
Good nutrition is just as important because it enables you to manage weight keep you energized
and helps reduce the risks of developing chronic diseases.
Healthline is produced by the Middletown Health Department and can be heard Saturday,
February 4 at 3:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 5:15 p.m. on WIHS 104.9 FM and “on-demand” at
cnxradio.com.
Does anyone know why the city uses this Christian station to broadcast this and other programs? There is another station in town that would be much more appropriate and not in conflict with the separation of church and state. I certainly hope no tax money goes to that station.
ReplyDeleteFrom the mission statement on their website:
"The purpose of our service is to bring Glory to GOD, by supporting, strengthening and equipping Christian believers and their families for service to GOD through His Church, as well as to call the unsaved to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation from the eternal punishment awaiting them for their sins. The content of our broadcasts is Christ centered and designed to be faithful to GOD's inspired Word, the Bible."
Does the Health department expect Jews, Muslims and any other non-Christians to tune into this station that says that eternal damnation is awaiting them if they are not saved?
I've been wondering how the city could justify this for a long time now. This is the year I pursue some answers.
There is no mention of the "Health Line" program on the schedule of the "Christian" radio station, WIHS. However, the program is on the schedule of another local station, WCNX so it appears that the program note at the end of the article was incorrect and therefore "Anonymous" got all bent out of shape unnecessarily!
ReplyDeleteI called Louis Carta and he said that HealthLine IS broadcasting on both WCNX and WIHS. He told me that there is no cost to the city for this and that in fact the radio stations are doing the city a favor by producing and broadcasting this show at no cost. As to why it is broadcast on WIHS, Carta said that it is just another way to get important information out to the public and that the show itself has no religious content or meaning. He said that the show used to be on AM Radio WMRD but that station decided not to continue running it. That is the end of the information that I got from Mr. Carta. My own personal comments: I don't know if this technically violates the separation of church and state, which is a very important tenet, but it seems that the City is trying to get the health information out via multiple media channels in an effort to distribute as widely as possible. It's not as if there is an exclusive alignment with the religious station only, and a person who wanted to hear this show could only hear it there, and thus be "forced" to listen to the religious message in order to get the health information. To Anon, If I were going to choose a battle, this would not be it.
ReplyDeleteThis program is very informative. I heard the last show on WIHS Radio and I would like to know if the radio station and the Health Department would include a call-in segment for listeners who have questions about the topics raised during their broadcast. This call-in segment would enhance the show even more.
