Altrusa Poetry Contest


Altrusa International of Central CT has worked in the Middletown CT and surrounding communities for more than 55 years. Altrusa International is a not-for-profit international association of professional women and men who volunteer their energies and expertise in projects dedicated to community betterment. Ongoing special focus: Literacy, the environment, HIV/AIDS.
Altrusa International of Central CT current projects include:
Literacy Volunteers, ABC Books (Altrusa Books for Children), High School Scholarship, Middlesex Community College Scholarship, Gerard F. Melito Senior Citizens Poetry Contest, Make A Difference Day-Jane Tarca Womans Health Awareness Day & Remembering our Woman Veterans, Hungry Babies are a Reality-year-round bay food & diaper drive.


Altrusa International of Central Connecticut, Inc. is pleased to announce our Annual Gerard F. Melito Senior Citizens' Poetry Contest. All senior residents of Central Connecticut aged 55 or older, are encouraged to share their stories and talents through the written word. All poems received are publishesd in a booket, distributed to each participant and local libraries. Poets will be invited to a reception in their honor, at which time the Poet will receive one poetry book, read one of their poems and congratulate the winners!
Our rules and requirements are:
*Author must be a resident of Central Connecticut, aged 55 or older.
*Poet may submit up to two poems with a maximum of 25 lines each.
*Each poem must be an original. (If it was previously submitted to our contest, it will be disqualified.)
*All entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 2, 2012. You can submit your poems electronically by emailing to:Altrusa-CentralCT@comcast.net or by mail addressed to:Altrusa's Gerard F. Melito Senior Citezens' Poetry Contestc/o Ellen Paris, 11 Alexander Drive, Cromwell, CT 06416
Poet will receive confirmation of their submission and an invitation to the reception which will be held on April 14, 2012 at the Cromwell Town Hall, 41 West Street, Cromwell, CT.Please contact us with any questions or concerns, via email at Altrusa-CentralCT@comcast.net of call Ellen at 860-635-0892 between 9:00am-4:00pm Monday to Friday.
