Middlesex Community College announces Dr. Steven Minkler has
been selected as its new Dean of Academic Affairs. Dr. Minkler will supervise academic programs
as well as full-time and adjunct faculty, oversee the development and review of
credit courses, and manage related budgets at MxCC. He joined the college on January 3, 2012.
Dr. Minkler comes to MxCC from Northwestern Connecticut
Community College in Winsted where he served as Academic Division Director of
Business, Science, Health and Technology.
While there, he developed courses, managed faculty, administered grants, and built strong relationships with local employers
and local high schools. He also served
on numerous college and state-wide committees including the Academic Planning
Review Committee and the Teaching and Learning Work Team.
For 14 years prior, Dr. Minkler was the Director of Academic
Media Technology at Capital Community College in Hartford. In addition to creating the associate’s
degree program in Communication Media, he managed the college’s
multimillion-dollar production facility, which was used for teaching as well as
for commercial productions, generating income for the school that funded
additional student equipment. While in
this role, he produced original magazine-format programming for Connecticut
Public Television’s CPTV-2 cable station that featured CCC’s academic programs,
students, faculty, alumni, and on-campus events.
He also played a key role in the distance learning programs
at CCC, as well as the use of instructional technology in the classroom. He was a technical consultant during design
and construction of the new downtown Hartford campus, and oversaw the
installation of $2 million in presentation media equipment in labs, classrooms,
and public areas.
“I have spent a great deal of my career in the community
college environment and am well aware of the incredible academic reputation
MxCC as earned,” he said. “This school
offers many exclusive and cutting edge programs, and is truly setting the
standard in online and distance learning.
This is an exciting time to be at MxCC.”
Dr. Minkler also has classroom experience. He has taught courses in communications,
media, broadcast production, culture and leadership.
“Dr. Minkler comes to
MxCC with wonderful experiences, creativity, and dedication to the community
college mission,” said Dr. Anna Wasescha, MxCC president. “We welcome him on board and look forward to
the positive impact he will have in this crucial administrative role at our
college.”
Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College (www.mxcc.commnet.edu) is an independent
member of the Connecticut Community College System. The school offers more than
50 degree or certificate programs on its main 38-acre campus in Middletown, and
