Urgent Need for Turkeys

From the Middlesex United Way

The Middletown Community Thanksgiving Project (MCTP) has registered 350 Middletown families for Thanksgiving baskets this year. However, with less than two weeks remaining until Thanksgiving, the MCTP is falling short of turkey donations to fill those baskets.

“The MCTP is short approximately 100 turkeys to make the holiday meals complete,” said Brenda Simmons, project manager of MCTP. “While we have received sufficient contributions of non-perishable food items, we are still in dire need of turkeys at this point,” Simmons continues. “We are appealing to the public to help and ensure the registered families have a decent meal on the holiday by contributing turkeys.”

The public is being asked to donate frozen turkeys. If you can help, a refrigerated truck will be stationed at Fellowship Church, 1002 Saybrook Road in Middletown on this Saturday, November 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to receive turkey donations. The truck has been donated by Jukonski Trucks of Middletown.

For the past 25 years, the Thanksgiving basket program has been helping families in need enjoy a warm and nutritious meal on the holiday. In 2011, the MCTP has received funding from the Liberty Bank Foundation, Middlesex United Way, and the Middlesex County Community Foundation to support its efforts. Other agencies participating in the coalition include Cross Street AME Zion Church, DianneAnneli.com, Fellowship Church, Heritage Commons, Liberty Bank, the Middletown Kiwanis Club, the Middletown Rotary Club, St. John Roman Catholic Church, St. Luke's Eldercare Services, St. Vincent DePaul Middletown/Amazing Grace Food Pantry, The Salvation Army, Wadsworth Glen Health Care Center, and Wesleyan University.
