The recount of votes in the Common Council race led to a one vote change from the official results posted on Election night. Deb Kleckowski picked up the vote, and won the final seat on the Council, with a 15 vote edge over David Bauer.
The recount was mandated by State law, because of the narrowness of the results. The Town Clerk, with assistance from the Registrar's Office, spent all of Monday in Council Chambers, recounting every ballot, using the voting machines, which were lined up in front of the dais where the elected council members will sit.
Thank god!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Deborah!!
ReplyDeleteHooray! The Bauer Hour has been cancelled! David Bauer started his council tenure with Mayor Giuliano and he goes out in defeat with him. The only reason Bauer was able to secure a seat on the council was due to a special election in late January 2006 which had a very low voter turnout. Bauer just liked to hear himself talk at council meetings-no substance. Out with the old and in with the new! Hooray this is a very good sign for Middletown!
ReplyDeleteDeb has and will do a great job.
ReplyDeleteHaving sat through many council meetings I will say that David Bauer was never afraid to ask the tough question. He was marginalized because he didn't have a go-along, get along attitude. He's smart as hell, and he knows more about the details of municipal workings than most public servants. You may end up missing David more than you know.
Thank you for your support, kind words and well wishes! Deb Kleckowski
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know where I can see the final, post-recount Common Council vote totals? The Press, Eye, and Patch don't have them.
