Drew Defeats Bourne, 1935 to 619

All of the Democratic Town Committee endorsed candidates will advance to the November 8 general election. The voter turnout in the primary was slight, only 25% of the 10,611 registered Democrats voted in the primary election.

The votes were initially obtained from the electronic voting machines by the moderator at each polling place, under the watchful eyes of poll workers and a representative from the Drew campaign.

The printout from the voting machines was carried down to City Hall, and as each one came in, entered on a white board in the Town Clerk's office.

At Democratic headquarters in Main Street Market, Dan Drew was gratified to win over 75% of the votes, "I'm really proud to have the overwhelming support of the people of Middletown."

Christine Bourne said she was not discouraged by the results. She pointed to the low turnout, "Truly, only the people close to the candidates came out to vote."

In the race for the Democratic nomination for City Treasurer, Quentin Phipps was beaming over his victory, but he cautioned that it would be a challenging general election, "I can't rest yet!"

Bourne and Raffa are running in the general election as Independents. They shared Phipps' sentiment and expressed confidence that in a three-way race, including the Republican nominees, and open to independent voters, the results would be much closer.

  1. Bourne's running mates got more votes than she did. The voters have spoken and the don't want Bourne and don't buy her rhetoric.

  2. Isn't it interesting that out of all the Dems running for the Council, Tom Serra got the lowest vote total. Bye, bye, Tommy!

  3. Under the watchful eye of a member of the Drew campaign???? Why????? Did they expect the numbers to change enroute??? Really????

  4. @6:40,

The vote totals were all within 5%. having 80 fewer people vote for Tom Serra just doesn't mean much.

  5. Relax...Tommy will be fine....low turnout for a primary....and Tommy pulls from dems, republicans, independents....don't get your hopes up....Tom is, was and will always be middletown. Rumor is everyone has it in for him, even his own party.....the voters will support him...thats all that matters
