At Monday's Common Council meeting the Democratic majority rejected the one-year contract
extension for city workers in Teamster's Local 671, formerly the MMPA, and for a two-year extension of the police union contract. The council voted strictly along party lines and cited the cost of the contract extensions and the lack of health care concessions by those unions.
The Council voted to approve the Fire Department contract extension because, Democratic Council spokesperson Hope Kasper said, there were concessions by the fire union.
