Jason Neely took the above photo in his Middletown backyard. He says it is a Sharp-shinned hawk carrying off a Northern Flicker which it had recently killed.
It's a sharp-shinned hawk, as indicated by the round-eyed look and squared-off tail. A cooper's hawk has that "eagle-eyed" look with a heavier "brow," and also has a rounded tail.
This is probably a female sharpie, given its large size (as noted relative to the flicker).
