On 2/28/11 at approximately 11:05pm, Middletown Police Officers were in the area of 520 Main St and observed two males fighting in the alley. When the police arrived the two males separated.
The above arrested, Donald Alger initially asked the victim repeatedly for a cigarette, and the victim told him no. Then the victim punched Alger several times in the face.  Alger then pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim twice in the abdominal area.  The bloody knife was found in Alger’s pocket.
The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment of his injuries.  It was later learned that the victim sustained a ruptured diaphragm and was in need of surgery.
Charges for the victim may also be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

This does not appear to be a random act of violence
