Fireman Wear Pink

From Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

The Middletown Fire Department, in conjunction with Middletown Firefighters Local 1073, announces a $1,250 donation to the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® in support of the local fight against breast cancer. The generous contribution is the product of a fundraiser spearheaded by the Department during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this past October.

For the month of October, the Fire Department traded its traditional work uniform for pink shirts with a special logo - a bright pink breast cancer ribbon with a fire nozzle at one end.

The fundraiser received department-wide support, and even members of the Middletown community purchased t-shirts to support the cause.

“As members of the community who already do so much to serve our state, we’re fortunate to have the support of the Middletown Fire Department in the local fight against breast cancer,” said Anne Morris, executive director for Komen Connecticut. “The Department not only raised funds for breast cancer, but raised awareness as well. Educating about breast cancer is so important to our mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever, and we are grateful to the Middletown Fire Department for all they do.”

Komen Connecticut invests seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from community fundraisers locally, in education, screening and treatment programs for Connecticut women. The other twenty-five percent supports national research initiatives to help find the cures. Since 1994, Komen for the Cure has invested more than $20 Million in Connecticut-based research, education, screening and treatment programs for breast cancer.
