At the end of the Common Council meeting Monday Council member Vinnie Loffredo announced his resignation from the Council effective after the January meeting.
The announcement came as a surprise to members of the opposite party who had just seen a resolution by Loffredo fail in a tie vote. Immediately following the vote Democratic Council members called for a recess at a time when an adjournment was expected.
For the second time in the evening, the Democratic caucus headed to the "fishbowl," a glassed-in area of the Council chambers lobby which allows privacy for caucus discussions. When they emerged they passed out copies of Loffredo's resignation letter. Loffredo read the letter to the Council explaining that new work commitments prevented him from serving further.
They mayor expressed shocked, but thanked Loffredo for his commitment to Middletown, and his passion for legislation.
One Council member indicated that Dan Drew, an exploratory candidate for mayor, is already being considered as a candidate to step into Loffredo's spot.
Hopefully only the first step in many a Democratic Councilman to leave.....
ReplyDeleteWhy does the position go to drew not the next highest vote getter? God help us not drew!
ReplyDeleteThank God, good bye! Sadly, only to be replaced by another Serra puppet....Dan Drew
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say thank you to Vinnie for all his years of service to Middletown, especially for his return to politics in recent years. There are many hours a week that go into being a councilperson in MIddletown - not just the hours that are seen on cable TV. We would be lucky to find a replacement who could bring the kind of dedication and expertise that Vinnie has given us. More than that, I will miss his experience and long perspective on progress in Middletown.
ReplyDeleteI will deeply miss Vin Loffredo on Middletown's Common Council and thank him for his years of service and his sincere interest in practicing good government. Knowing he has been on our Common Council has given me a lot of peace of mind. I'm gonna miss him in that hot seat.
