Christmas Tree Recycling

From the Middletown Department of Public Works

Mayor Sebastian Giuliano announced that the City of Middletown's Christmas Tree
Collection and Recycling Program will commence on Monday, January 3, 2011, weather
permitting. This special recycling program is being provided to City residents as part of the City's overall effort to reduce waste and reuse and recycle discarded materials.
Christmas trees can either be brought to the City Recycling Center for recycling or placed at the curb for collection by the Middletown Public Works Department. Trees placed at the curb must
be prepared accordingly:
1. All decorations must be removed, including tinsel.
2. Plastic bags must also be removed.
3. Trees should be placed butt ends facing the curb.
4. Trees must be placed at the curb by January 3, 2010.
The collection schedule will depend upon weather conditions. Heavy snow will delay collection of the trees.   Tree collection will end on Jan. 24, 2010.

Trees delivered directly to the Recycling Center must also have all decorations removed and be emptied from plastic bags. A residence pass must be acquired to enter the Recycling Center. This sticker can be obtained from the Department of Public Works in the Municipal Building.   The vehicle registration of the vehicle you’ll be using must be presented when obtaining a permit.  There is no charge to bring trees to the Recycling Center.

Christmas trees are chipped along with regular brush from residents and the chips are given away free of charge to Middletown residents and businesses.  Large loads of woodchips (more than five cubic yards) are delivered to residents free of charge.

For more information on Christmas tree recycling or woodchip delivery, contact the Middletown Recycling Coordinator at 344-3526 or email Kim O’Rourke at kim.orourke@cityofmiddletown.com.
