Middletown High PTA Seeking Parent Involvement

From Jean Monahan

Do you have a child attending Middletown High School?  If yes, please consider attending this Thursday’s Partnership/PTA meeting.  There are 1,350 students currently enrolled at MHS.  Would it surprise you to hear that 4 non-officer parents attended last month’s meeting?  Yes, 4.  We had a total attendance of 8.  There were 4 Partnership/PTA officers and 4 parents.  I am shocked at the lack of involvement by parents of students at the high school level.  The meetings are informative and cover a wide range of topics.  We do not spend time fundraising and only a few minutes are spent on PTA business.  We have speakers at each meeting and I can honestly say I have never left a meeting feeling like it was a waste of time.  Most often I leave feeling like I learned many things I never knew and I wish more parents were there to hear the things I heard.

The November meeting will be held this Thursday, November 18th at 6:30 at MHS and is called “What Goes on at MHS?” :

This is a great opportunity to meet other high school parents and hear about the different groups that contribute to our children’s lives.  I am the Treasurer of the MHS PTA, a regular reader of the Middletown Eye and a parent who really wants to see more parents participating in our high school events.  Please put this meeting on your calendar.  I hope to see you there.

  1. Thanks for posting this! A monthly reminder the week before the meeting would be great to have, esp. with an agenda and/or notice of special events.

I hope that others will send in school-related events to be posted on the Eye.
