In the waning days of his tenure as Senator, Chris Dodd returned to Middletown to help the Community Health Center celebrate groundbreaking for its new headquarters on the corner of Main and Grand Streets.
Dodd praised the efforts of the Community Health Center, and pointed to the founders and leaders of CHC as models for the students from Macdonough Elementary School who attended the ceremony. Mark Masselli, CEO of the Community Health Center also reminded the students that Macdonough has been a pioneer with CHC, acting as the site for its first in-school health program, and being the kick-off location for Recess Rocks, an anti-obesity program which has now been adopted by schools across the country.
The new headquarters will house clinics as well as administrative offices for the Community Health Center, and will be a LEED certified building, using innovative approaches to energy conservation and sustainability.
Also attending were Mayor Sebastian Giuliano, who noted that "doing things because they're hard to do" was a quality of the American people, and connected everyone from those who first imagined traveling to the moon, and the founders of CHC who imagined that health care should be available for all.
State Senator Paul Doyle, State Representatives Joe Serra and Matt Lesser, Common Council members Ron Klattenberg and Macdonough principal Jon Romeo were among the many notable community members who gathered to help CHC celebrate their latest milestone.
