Rivers, Trees, Bikes, Boats & Energy

The Jonah Center for Earth and Art invites the public to a forum-style meeting on Tuesday, October 19, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Church of Christ, UCC, 190 Court Street, Middletown, to hear a series of brief reports on local environmental issues of special importance to residents of Middletown and surrounding communities. River access, shade trees, waterfront enhancement, travel by walking and cycling, water and air quality, and visual appeal all make important contributions to a healthy, appealing city.

At this meeting, you will hear updates on the following projects, followed by discussion, questions, and opportunities to get involved.

• A kayak/canoe launch in the North End and other access to the Coginchaug River
• Making Middletown more “bicycling- and walking-friendly”
• Preserving and restoring Middletown’s trees
• New developments at Harbor Park
• Saving Connecticut rivers from stream flow depletion
• Residential and municipal energy conservation

Speakers will include (in the order of the topics listed above): Kate Miller, Beth Emery, Jane Harris, Tom Chace, Lisa Santangelo, Diana Lane, and John Hall. Local politicians and government officials will be invited to take part in the conversation.
