Employees of MiddleOak, which include the property-casualty insurance companies Holyoke Mutual Insurance Company in Salem, MA and Middlesex Mutual Assurance Company in Middletown, CT, gathered today for the company’s annual charity event. “Like many companies, we’ve traditionally hosted an annual company picnic. But in our picnic last year we included a build-a-bike charity activity that our employees were very proud of,” says Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Suzanne Wilson. “The enthusiasm generated by our employees led us to change the theme of our annual picnic to a charity event.”
For this years’ event, MiddleOak sponsored a scavenger hunt with a focus on supporting local schools. Employees were split into teams and had to work together to earn school supplies such as binders, notebooks and calculators which were used to fill brand new backpacks. In total, MiddleOak donated 50 backpacks filled with school supplies to students from the Keigwin and Woodrow Wilson Middle Schools in Middletown.
"We are very proud that MiddleOak has been able to continue our efforts toward charitable giving, and this annual event has proven that we can have a great day while working together to make a difference in the lives of others. We think of it as a ‘picnic with a purpose’,” says Wilson.
On hand to accept the 50 backpacks and school supplies on behalf of the students were Superintendent Michael J. Frechette, Keigwin Middle School Principal Tracey S. Koff and Woodrow Wilson Middle School Principal Charles E. Marqua.
