Bearcubes Invade Middletown

Invited by a colleague who is an instructor at the Center for Creative Youth, a summertime program held at Wesleyan University, the Oberlin band, Bearcubes brought their double-oboe attack to the World Music Hall Sunday night.

On the final night of a two-week tour the Bearcubes (Alex Kramer, Clair Chenette, Katherine Dohan, David Greenberg and Saul Alpert-Abrams) displayed a disarming sense of whimsy and deep musical creativity which married American roots music, with a theatricality, jazz and classical structures.

They were received warmly and enthusiastically by the audience which consisted almost entirely of students from the CCY program.

A storm cell which passed over the World Music Hall, coincidentally during a song entitled "Summer Storm," filled the sky with spectacular cloud formations as the sun set over Middletown.
