Perfect Weather for a Festa

For the first time in years, the annual St. Sebastians Festival had perfect late spring weather for the entire three days of the event.

The result, of course, was a midway crowded with festival goers balancing sausage and pepper sandwiches, olive salad, pizza fritta, gelato and cannolis, while children queued to mix the goodies well on the scrambler and the ferris wheel.

When it was time to ring the courtyard bell during Mass, the rope broke and the Vechitto twins resorted to their feet to get the giant brass bell sounding.

Elsewhere in the neighborhood, gardeners got jump on the traditional Memorial Day planting at the Erin Street gardens.

And taking a break from the festival, which is literally in my backyard, a group of neighbors headed to Eli Cannon's for nachos, wings and beer and we ran into a hundred revelers celebrating Jen's birthday with a pub crawl down Main Street on Saturday night.
