Attorneys for the Board of Education and the City of Middletown sought a continuance of a case in which the BOE is suing the city to prevent the termination of non-certified employees hired by the BOE. In addition the BOE sought to prevent Mayor Sebastian Giuliano from signing paychecks for non-certified employees.
The continuance was granted by Judge Robert Holzberg who warned the parties that the court would not be available to adjudicate the case again until mid-July. Attorney Christine Chinni, representing the BOE, said she was confident that an agreement could be worked out.
Talks between the city and the BOE began immediately following a court appearance Friday, and were bolstered by a meeting with the Superintendent of the State Board of Education who dispensed suggestions to attorneys.
Ted Raczka, Chairman of the Board of Education expressed confidence that talks would produce a workable compromise.
Thank goodness. These professionals need to talk together and work together and get through this mess without court cases and vitriol. We don't have money to throw at legal messes and we don't have school board funds to waste, either. Work it out. Be the professionals we hired you to be.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who's right but make it right. The only access to that resolution is to work it through professionally and with integrity. Talk to the City Manager & Mayor of Meriden and ask them how they've moved forward with the BOE - it's a model worth replicating.
