Kudos to the Middletown Press editor who describes for Ed McKeon how her organization is changing the way it operates to keep up with the changing information market:
"We're trying to become a 24/7 news organization - not a print product . . . the goal is to have everybody in the office know how to do everything. I go out and take photos and write stories. I'm not just sitting behind a desk. A reporter is off? somebody has to go cover it. I expect everybody on my staff to be able to grab a flip camera, a regular camera, a notebook and go out and cover something. Nobody should be locked into one position."
So here's an editor who gets it. Good for her and the Press. They have a chance. Wish I could say the same for other papers.
