CORRECTION (Thanks to Gerry Daley) No vote was taken on the bond ordinance Tuesday. It was a public hearing.
According to Mayor Sebastian Giuliano, the Common Council held a public hearing on two bonding ordinances of approximately $750,000 each to purchase new public safety software and hardware. A vote is scheduled for a special meeting of the council Thursday.
The Common Council did NOT vote on the bond ordinances for public safety IT systems - they were the subject of a public hearing, but there was no vote. The ONLY bond ordinance voted on last night was one for improvements to the Charles Bacon Water Treatment plant. You must have misunderstood what the Mayor reported.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the clarification Gerry. Though I actually didn't misunderstand what the mayor told me.
ReplyDeleteThe City of Middletown dispatches for Portland Police,Fire,Ems. Is the town of Portland going to contribute to the $1.5 million for the new public safety hardware and software system?? I agree with the Middletown eye why is this project being rushed along, Middletown needs this upgrade, hopefully the City Council will be looking at all options for it`s taxpayers and not rushing this through.
ReplyDeleteEd - if you didn't misunderstand what the Mayor reported, then I guess he misunderstood what happened at the meeting. I can't believe that he told you we voted on the public safety / IT ordinances and that two votes are required. There's no provision for two Council votes on anything but creation, reorganization, or elimination of City departments. I saw him there as Chair of the meeting and he seemed to be paying attention. Was the Mayor really that confused?
ReplyDeleteMy misunderstanding on the two votes, but the mayor told me they had passed the bond issue? Maybe he misunderstood my question.
