Mayor Favors Reserving Judgment on Gas Leak Decision

Mayor Sebastian Giuliano has met with officials from the Middletown School System and is asking city officials and the general public to reserve judgment on Keigwan principal Tracey Koff concerning a gas leak at the school on January 19.

"I'm sure she was doing what she was told," Giuliano said.  "Calling the central office first in an emergency."

Giuliano indicated that all parties, school official, fire department officials and city officials have met and now understand the protocol for such emergencies.

"Get the students out of the building first and foremost," Giuliano said.  "And get the appropriate people, the police and fire departments in, to handle the emergency."

After a discussion with Superintendent of Schools Michael Frechette, Giuliano is satisfied that the city will not face another situation where students are left in the building when there is a gas leak.

"I think he understands that he has to work with the Fire Department," Giuliano said.
