Traffic, Parking, Bikes, and Middletown's Green Future

I would like to share with Middletown residents two upcoming events.

The first one is a Bicycle Friendly Community Symposium on Jan 12 @ 05:30 PM hosted by the Capitol Region Council of Governments, (CRCOG), which is Hartford's Regional Planning Organization (RPO), the Central CT Bicycle Alliance, and the Bushnell. This program will feature Andy Clarke, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists, who will give an inspiring talk on the benefits that accrue to communities that are bicycle friendly. Andy will focus particularly on economic benefits and improvements to livability. Sunday’s Hartford Courant had an editorial written by the guest speaker, Mr. Clarke; Initiatives Gives Cycling Fresh Legs.
The city of New Haven has arranged for a bus to transport elected/town personnel, and the cities Street Smarts advocates to the event. CT General Assembly members, officials from ten CRCOG towns, staff of town RPO throughout the state, and numerous other town officials throughout the state have signed up to attend. Advocates of multi-modal transportation are hoping this will help to motivate many CT towns to engage in a path that promotes bicycle friendliness!
This event will be held at the Bushnell's Great Hall. For further information contact Sandy Fry at CRCOG 860-522-2217 x220.

The following week Yale Transportation Options, and the Yale Journalism Initiative host Traffic, Parking and our Green Future, a discussion about sustainability through the lens of traffic and parking, lead by highly regarded speakers, Donald Shoup author of the High Cost of Free Parking and Tom Vanderbilt author of the NYT best selling book Traffic: Why we drive the Way We Do (and What it Says About Us). The discussion will cover a range of multidisciplinary topics such as land use, economics, human behavior, transportation engineering, social change, and the health of the community.
This event will take place Tuesday Jan 19 at Sudler Hall--100 Wall St. New Haven 7-8:30. This is a free event and open to the public.

Lady Cyclist will be attending both events, and reporting back with editorials and thoughts on keeping Middletown in Motion, parking, traffic, bikes, walking, public transit, and Middletown's Green Future.
