Foreclosures Up 211% From A Year Ago

According to the latest newsletter from Middletown Planning, Conservation and Development, there were 56 property foreclosure filings in Middletown in December 2009.  A year prior, there were 18.  That's an increase of 211%.  Comparing quarters, there were 144 in the last quarter of 2009, compared with 77 in 2008.

Those statistics are just some available in the rich and detailed newsletter, and attached report, available from Planning, Conservation and Development.  You can subscribe to this informative newsletter by dropping an email to Michiel Wackers michiel.wackers@cityofmiddletown.com.

November unemployment rates held steady at 7.7% down from a low in June of 8.2%, but those numbers are attributed more toward a shrinking labor pool than from job growth.

While building permits were down 57%, housing sales stayed strong with 148 units sold between Jan-Nov of 2009, compared to 155 the year before.

And while internet searches were down from the month prior for topics related to Middletown, the Middletown Eye was still on top of the list.
