An Overdue Tribute

Common Council members Gerry Daley and Phil Pessina called a tribute to former police captain Salvatore "Flash" Faraci, "a long overdue tribute." The Common Council voted, by acclaim to name the road which leads to the police firing range, Captain Salvatore "Flash" Faraci Road.

Faraci designed, planned and managed the building of the police firing range which opened in 1983, and was then, one of two town ranges in Connecticut. The range has now being shared with the FBI.

In other business, the Common Council voted a unanimous "nay" which, if a reverse parliamentary procedure, meant that they endorsed the contract that the Board of Education negotiated with Middletown teachers. The contract institutes a virtual freeze on salaries for teachers in contract year 2011, and an overall increase of $561,000 in salaries and $235,000 in one-time thousand dollar payments for the 420 teachers affected by the contract.

"A hard freeze on wages is a commendable contribution in helping to address the fiscal problems that the city, and in fact, all other governmental institutions will be facing," Daley said.

"$800,000 over a three year contract in our budget is really nothing at all," Council member Thomas Serra added.

  2. The police range was not taken over by the FBI. There is an agreement for joint use in exchange for significant upgrades.

  3. Oh how interesting is this tidbit. The Teachers are praised by the Democrats for increasing the budget by 800,000 dollars. The City Unions are chastised by the same council for over 1 million dollars in givebacks. It seems to me that this Council has it's priorities backwards. Word on the street is all the Unions have endorsed the Republicans. Where in a Democratic town have you ever witnessed this! This Common Council MUST be voted out. When you place your own feelings ahead of the taxpayers, it's time to look elsewhere with your lies.

  4. Wait a minute. Councilman Serra's son is a teacher. Did he vote on a contract that has an indirect financial gain for a family member? If so that is a violation of the Code of Ethics. Isn't it time that the citizens truly begin to hold the politicos accountable? If a former mayor used his power on the council for personal gains of a family member then shame on him!

  5. Why yes he did vote on the contract, and in the way he voted it did not benefit his son! He voted to FREEZE teacher's pay!!! You guys are rediculous with all the junk you pull! Tom will still get elected because he has taken these shots from you little peaons for 30 years! Get over it and move on to someone you can actually prevent from getting elected!!!!!

  6. Mr. Editor,
I'm confused? Did the Teachers union get a raise, or didn't they? The way I read the article, wages were frozen in 2011, but they will still recieved a wage increase in 2010. Am I understanding this correctly?

    pe⋅on
    1  /ˈpiən, ˈpiɒn/ Pronunciation [pee-uhn, pee-on]
    –noun
    1. (in Spanish America) a farm worker or unskilled laborer; day laborer.
    2. (formerly, esp. in Mexico) a person held in servitude to work off debts or other obligations.
    3. any person of low social status, esp. one who does work regarded as menial or unskilled; drudge.

I am not sure that is the word you wanted to use here. Before you resort to name calling you should double check the definition and run spell check.

  8. Exactly the correct word! No need for spell check because I didn't think you would realize the mispelling because of your low social status!!! Go work off your debt!!! You PEeeeeeeeeON!!!
