Saturday October 17:
That handsome face belongs to Brian Conway, who really knows how to play that fiddle he's holding with his left hand. You can watch him play it this Saturday at 8 p.m. as he and Brendan Dolan (piano, whistle, flute) perform a concert in Jodi Cormack's intimate living room here in Middletown.
Conway is a leading exponent of the highly ornamented Sligo fiddling style made famous by the late Michael Coleman. The winner of two All- Ireland junior titles in 1973 and 1974 and the All-Ireland senior championship of 1986, Brian's early studies were with his father Jim of Plumbridge County Tyrone and with Limerick born fiddler/teacher Martin Mulvihill.
Dolan has worked with accordionist John Whelan, singer/songwriter Cathie Ryan, Andy Statman, Itzhak Perlman, and the group Atlantic Bridge, which also featured former Solas vocalist Karan Casey. He is currently earning a degree from the Jazz Studies program at SUNY New Paltz, and plays at many ceilis and concerts with various groups around the New York area.
