If you run out of Middletown entertainment options, then head down to the Ivoryton Playhouse where The Full Monty is playing through July 26th.
The Ivoryton Playhouse is a classic professional summer theater with a long pedigree of stars (and future stars) who have appeared there over its 70+ years of operation. All the productions I've ever seen there have been terrific. (Full disclosure: My dad once had a walk-in as Mr. Goldstone in a production of Gypsy there, which also featured Middletown's own Carolyn Kirsch as Tessie Tura. You really shouldn't have missed that!)
About The Full Monty:
Six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers, low on both cash and prospects, decide to present a strip act at a local club after seeing their wives' enthusiasm for a touring company of Chippendales. As they prepare for the show, working through their fears, self-consciousness, and anxieties, they overcome their inner demons and find strength in their camaraderie.
Ivoryton's production is directed and choreographed by Larry Nye, a veteran director and teacher at Southern CT State University and musical directed by John DeNicola. The set is designed by Cully Long, costumes by Vivianna Lamb and lighting by Tate Burmeister.
The Full Monty runs through July 26th. Performance times are Wednesday and Sunday matinees at 2pm; Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:30pm and Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm. Tickets are $35 for adults; $30 for seniors; $20 for students and $15 for children and are available by calling the box-office at 860-767-7318 or by visiting our website at www.ivorytonplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is located at 103 Main Street, Ivoryton, CT 06442
Adult language is used in this production
If some of your family members are a little young for The Full Monty, let me suggest the Playhouse's children's series, which hosts weekly professional productions. The next show is on July 17th at 11 am: "The Myth of Persephone" with the Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children's Theater. Tickets $12 each.
