The obligatory fireworks pictures

Yes, the rain kept the crowd at bay, still thousands of us gathered to happily watch $50,000 in tax dollars go up in smoke, flame and ash in a matter of 20 minutes.

  1. "Flame and ash in a matter of minutes"....ABSOLUTELY. I could do without the big fireworks show, too. Thanks a lot, Democrats. I would have rather seen evidence that they are capable of tightening the belt during an extraordinarily tough budget year. But God Forbid they should take away our fireworks, with November's election looming!

Fireworks = Pablum for the Middletown Masses. I hope the show was worth it.

  2. The phrase in Roman times was "panem et circenses", bread and circuses. Who is more to blame, the politicians who provide it or the masses who demand it? They are elected officials who are supposed to represent us, not do what what is right.

  3. That's ironic. We left the Nation Beat show and my friend (who didn't live in Middletown) commented on the fact that in this economy, it was hard to believe any town would be spending money on fireworks.

$50,000? That's a ton of money!! I could have entertained them in the rain with coke and menthos for a lot less!

  6. Obviously, Middletown is not the only town that feels fireworks are an important way to celebrate Independence Day and elevate our spirits in this economy. In addition to fireworks in many communities yesterday, there will be fireworks today in Torrington, Bristol, Stafford, Washington, New Britain, Norwich, New Milford, Middlebury and New Haven.

  7. Over 50 years of watching Fourth of July fireworks and this is the first time I've EVER seen a grand finale with no high aerial shots. Who says Middletown has nothing new to offer?

  8. Anom 652 & 658 are these both of your comments. I have posted some pretty snarky comments here and have always had them posted .
