Kiwanis Honors High School Grads

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown honored the assembled valedictorians and salutatorians from the four area high schools Wednesday. This was the 57th consecutive year that the Kiwanis organization has honored the top students from the local secondary schools.

Administrators from Middletown High School, Xavier High School, Mercy High School and Vinal Technical High School introduced their students to the Kiwanis Club and parents. Each of the students spoke of their future plans and aspirations.

Honored were Mercy High School Valedictorian Jessica Oitman, who will attend the Johns Hopkins University, Mercy High School Salutatorian Laura Giocco, who will attend Fairfield University, Middletown High School Valedictorian Lisa Chamberland, who will attend the University of Vermont, Middletown High School Salutatorian Claire Dunn, who will attend Colby College, Vinal Technical High School Valedictorian Raymond Ramirez, who will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, Vinal Technical High School Salutatorian Steven Joseph Maggi, II, who will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, Xavier High School Valedictorian Sean Cahill, who will attend Boston College and Xavier High School Salutatorian Christopher Shugrue, who will attend Holy Cross.

  1. Its so nice to see Kiwanis in the news again! This group continues to step up to the needs of the community.

    And these days refreshing to see a community group taking care of the City's youth while the politicians squabbles over budget issues, some one is still paying attention to students!
