South Fire District Swearing in Two New Recruits

On Friday May 22, 2009 @ 12:00 P.M. the South Fire District of the City of Middletown will swear in our two newest recruits, Firefighters Keith St. Germain and Mike Reise.
This will bring the department up to full staff, in the coming weeks the department will fulfill the obligation of hiring three additional recruits bringing the staffing to a total of 29 line personnel. This will allow for each of the four platoons to be staffed with six firefighters and one lieutenant and one day shift lieutenant. This ultimately will relieve the overtime burden that has been a large concern to a group of taxpayers.
The implementation of this plan has increased staffing and brought the District that much closer to being NFPA compliant along with addressing the concerns of the constituents.
The Commission has answered the concerns of the constituents and continually accesses ways to save. In the coming years the South Farms will continue to grow through development of the river front and in turn will require greater need for the services of the department.
The growth of the river front within the District is a vital part of tax relief to the constituents, as the commercial property owners will help grow the grand list and offset some of the costs to taxpayers. In todays economic times the encouragement and involent of constituents supporting this growth will also play a vital role in this development coming to fruition.
Take part in our community and get involed in helping do what is right for the future of the City as well District for the return of these action will be priceless.

  1. I hope to see more gender and racial diversity in our new fire and police department hires in the future.

  2. to 1042 am. you may be interested in this information about a fantastic and inspirational event I attended in Wallingford on Saturday. - "Groundbreaking Women" - A celebration of Women in the Trades. There were 20 honorees, all women retiring from unions - carpenters, electricians etc. Rosa deLauro and Richard Blumenthal were there. It was amazing. Links below. I was dissapointed to see no Middletown people or connections there, but a great event for CT anyway.

  3. I hope the most qualified people are hired, regardless of race or gender, that should never be a factor. These are serious professions that need the most qualified people. We shouldn't be worried about being politically correct. When my house is burning down I want to know that the most qualified people are there, not an affirmative action department.
