I don't know what his motivations were but I'm glad he did this - maybe his budget wasn't perfect (it wasn't!) but at least he was trying to address some of the realities of rising costs and reduced income.
It is evident that both our current mayor and common council are doing what they can to create a budget that will carry our town for the next two years. I question whether or not they both have made deductions on personal levels not just town wide. As we see every budget year both have wants and desires to meet, both sides strive to spend our residents' and state funds wisely, and both sides are required to work for the good of our town. However, it is disappointing that both sides can not come to a common ground or compromise without issuses and blames. As it is undoubtably a need to have a check and balance system to be sure that no one person is overstepping thier position of leadership, it is also important to have a check and balance system that works with others to establish a cooperative and beneficial system of leadership. Knowing that this is an election year it is obvious that this budget will cause much discussion because both sides need to procede with caution to ensure re-election. I am sorry Mayor Giuliano to say but to an unemployed member of our community, a retired member of our community, or a disabled member of our community a $4.00 a week increase is still an increase. One that not many can afford. Mr. Drew, if you will recall, our taxes increased last year. What sacrifices will you make as Mayor? When you say "new leadership" what steps will you take to ensure this will occur? Will it still be dem. vs. rep. or will we finally work together to create a better town by putting the party lables second and our residents first. I encourage the residents of our town to speak out and require the mayor, common council, and mayoral candidates to lead by example, to put the needs of our town before the wants, and to be able to work together for the good of the town. Middletown citizens are not aware that democrats and republicans work together to suppress freedom of speech in order to do whatever they want. For example: Do citizens of Middletown know that our constitutional right is freedom of speech is suppressed by the Common Council? Are citizens of Middletown aware that Clmn. Serra and Clmn. Klattenburg are responsible to have passed an ordinance where your opinions do count for nothing. As a matter of fact, if a citizen tries to have an imput on a specific issue your voice does not count because as of three years ago, the Common Coucil voted a resolution that citizen comments would not be televised in order that Middletown Citizens remain ignorant of the issues that confront the City. You only receive the opinions of the councilmen who always lie to you and program you to believe their lies when there are lot of options to the issues and always find an excuse to increase your taxes whenever their pockets are empty. If you really care about this city, request that this wall created by the Democratic Council is rescinded and request from the candidates for Mayor whether they support this ordinance. If they do, THROW THEM OUT and specifically Clmn. Tom Serra & Clmn. Klattenburg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
