Right to solar-powered drying bill clears committee

The State Legislature's joint committee on Energy and Technology recommended approval of the clothes line freedom bill (H.B. No. 5995, "An act concerning the freedom to dry") yesterday. The vote in the committee was 20 - 4 in favor of the bill. Three of Middletown's four state representatives, Matt Lesser, James O'Rourke, and Gail Hamm, are co-sponsors. Lesser and O'Rourke, as members of the Energy and Technology Committee, voted in favor of the bill.

The bill now will go back to the Screening Committee, which will determine whether it needs to be heard by other committees before going to the full house. Possible assignments for the bill include the Planning and Development Committee, and the Judiciary Committee.
